ACUPUNCTURE

Western acupuncture is an adaptation of Chinese acupuncture using knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology. It acts by stimulating the nervous system to include stimulating the bodies natural endorphins and blockage of pain pathways in helping to reduce pain and restore function. Acupuncture is used most effectively in treating musculoskeletal pain, myofascial trigger points, facial pain and headaches. The incidence of complications and side effects is extremely low. Many of our therapists are skilled in acupuncture and use it frequently to obtain positive results. They are trained and certified through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute.

AURICULAR ACUPUNCTURE

Auricular acupuncture (ear acupuncture) is the stimulation of acupuncture points on the external ear surface. This form of acupuncture was discovered in the 1950’s by Dr. Paul Nogier in France and European physicians have been successfully using the treatment for years. The entire body, including physical and emotional points, is precisely mapped on the ear and the stimulation of these very specific points is highly effective in treating orthopaedic, muscular and neurological pain. It can also be very beneficial for those suffering from chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, migraines, insomnia, painful conditions that are affected by stress, depression or anxiety as well as a multitude of other disorders. Auricular acupuncture stimulates the body’s own neurohormonal regulating systems via the brain to promote healing and reduce pain. Treatment is done with needles or electrotherapy and is virtually free of any side effects.
